Wax melt listing photo checklist

What to include, what to avoid, and how to make your photos match the real product.

Good listing photos should match the real product — not just the vibe. This guide walks through what to check before you shoot, the six photos worth having, the details your images need to show clearly, and the common mistakes that cause questions, confusion and returns.

Why listing photos matter

  • Help customers understand size, shape and finish
  • Set expectations before purchase
  • Support your scent naming, style and branding
  • Reduce confusion, questions and avoidable complaints

Good photos should match the real product — not just the vibe.

1. Start with the product record

Before the camera comes out, confirm what you are actually photographing.

  • Check the product name
  • Check the batch number
  • Confirm the product type
  • Check the size or pack format
  • Make sure the photographed item is the same version you are selling

2. Check the recipe before you photograph

Your listing title and your recipe should tell the same story.

  • Check the scent name
  • Check the wax type
  • Check the fragrance percentage
  • Check colour or additives if relevant
  • Make sure your listing name matches your real recipe

3. What to include in a listing photo set

  • 1.Hero product shot — show the full product clearly and beautifully.
  • 2.Close-up detail shot — highlight texture, ingredients or special details.
  • 3.Packaging shot — show packaging front, and back if it adds value.
  • 4.In-hand or scale shot — help buyers understand size and get a feel for the product.
  • 5.Styled scene — set the mood and show it in real life.
  • 6.Label or scent-name close-up — make the scent name easy to read at a glance.

You do not need lots of photos. You need clear, useful ones.

4. What your photos should show clearly

  • True colour
  • Cube or cavity shape
  • Label text
  • Pack size or quantity
  • Packaging finish
  • What the customer will actually receive

Use your product record as the source of truth.

5. Common photo mistakes to avoid

  • 1.Over-editing the colour — unrealistic colours reduce trust. Keep tones natural and true to life.
  • 2.Photographing testers instead of sale stock — used testers look worn. Always shoot fresh, unused stock.
  • 3.Cluttered styling — too many props distract from the product. Keep it clean, calm and focused.
  • 4.Hiding the product size — shoppers need scale to buy with confidence. Show size clearly every time.
  • 5.Showing a label the customer will not receive — outdated or sample labels cause confusion and returns.
  • 6.Using a scent name that does not match your record — inconsistent naming leads to mistakes and unhappy customers.

Clear beats clever every time.

6. Check finished stock before you post

  • Only advertise what is ready to sell
  • Check quantities before filming or listing
  • Note low stock items
  • Avoid promoting sold-out scents
  • Update stock after markets or orders

7. Your CLP and product info should match

  • Check the scent name matches
  • Check the label is the correct one
  • Make sure warnings and product info are up to date
  • Your photos should show the real label the customer will receive

Check the final label before you photograph.
